BRIDGE CRANES
McLAUGHLIN HOIST & CRANE designs, manufactures, and installs overhead bridge cranes. We can design custom cranes to fit your particular building and lifting needs.
Our qualified sales engineers welcome the opportunity to discuss your material handling needs and propose an effective solution.
Bridge cranes can be divided into two distinct groups:
Top Running Bridge Cranes
- Underhung Bridge Cranes
The decision of which style is optimal for your situation is primarily based upon:
- Desired Capacity
- Support Structure
- Headroom Available and Required Lift
TOP RUNNING BRIDGE CRANES
Capacity – Theoretically infinite capacity, cranes have been built with 500 Ton capacities (1 Million Pounds)! Capacities are practically limited by mechanical strength of members. Common capacities range from 1 Ton to 25-Tons.
Support Structure – Supported from independent columns and runways tied into the building structure but are sometimes supported directly off of the building for lighter capacity cranes.
Headroom – Provides more available lift than a similar underhung bridge crane. The most space efficient crane design to minimize headroom and maximize lift is the double girder top running crane.
UNDERHUNG BRIDGE CRANES
Capacity – Known to have capacities anywhere from 1 to 25 Tons, but commonly have maximum capacities in the 10-Ton range.
Support Structure – Runways often hang directly from the structure of the building that it is located in. Runways can also be designed as completely freestanding (portal frame design).
Headroom – Requires greater headroom, to obtain the equal available lift, than a top running crane.
